John Brockhausen's Team Sparrow takes on Disney 2018 Fundraiser
As many of you know the last few years have been a very trying time for my family. We went from having hope in Lydia beating cancer to losing her to cancer on June 11th 2016. With all the emotions that have come with battling cancer and now the loss my family faces, I have found a lot of therapy in running as a way to leave my emotions on the road.

I joined Team Sparrow for the 2016 Wine and Dine marathon in Disney and it was a life changing and truly emotionally cathartic experience. I was able to run with conviction and a purpose and for the 3:30 I was on that course, I was able to process a lot of emotional pain. When I was ready to quit and stop, I would come up across fellow team mates and that was what I needed to push me harder. The end of the race was brutal , but thanks to one team member I was able to push through and finish. I'll never forget that moment and the feeling of accomplishment for finishing. This Year I have signed up for another 13.1 miles with my fellow Sparrows

For those of you who don't know, Sparrow's Nest is a much needed charitable organization that helped us tremendously during our time of greatest need. Sparrow’s Nest of the Hudson Valley provides two meals, once a week, to the families of caregivers diagnosed with cancer. For our family, the meals that they provided made the weeks of treatments and nights a lot simpler. And now, Team Sparrow members have become some of my greatest friends and a life line for me and the girls. The organization truly embodies how together by doing just a little, we can all do so much.

I couldn't think of a better way to pay it back to Sparrow's Nest and help other families who are fighting Cancer than by paying it forward and participate in this fundraiser in honor of my wife, Lydia. The trials and pain that families go through and the strength they need to face this horrible disease is a small drop in the bucket compared to the training it takes to run.

For me, the training and the running will continue to help me process the intense emotions of the past few years. And the money that is raised will help hundreds of other families in their time of greatest need. A donation of $ 25.00 provides one tray of food for a family, $50.00 feeds a family for a week and for $100, you provide the food for a family for one month.
